The mother of this litter is my wonderful co-owned girl Cookie (GaiAlmas Pippilotta). She is 3 years old now, has A hips and 0 elbows and her heart has been screened again in April 2023 (Ultrasound + EKG) and is perfectly healthy (like the ones of her mother – 6,7 years – and grandmother – 9,6 years – the same day). Cookie’s father is still alive, too, at the age of almost 9 years and also most of her other ancestors lived very long. She has an excellent, uncomplicated character and lives as a family dog in Stockholm. I consider Cookie a gift from mother nature, because she is a fawn out of mostly harlequin lines and thus she brings urgently necessary fresh blood into the fawn/brindle color group.
As a father for this litter I chose the black male Legacy (Catapha’s Legacy of Atomic) from Finland. He was born in 2000 and died at the age of almost 10 years (due to old age). So we used artificial insemination with frozen semen and I am very grateful to his owner, Kirsi Mäki, that I was allowed to use her boy. Legacy had A hips and 0 elbows and his heart was screened (ultrasound + EKG) at the age of 2,5 years with best results. He was shown a lot and is actually International Champion, Nordic Champion, Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian Champion. But his most important title is World Veteran Winner 2008!
Kirsi also owned Legacy’s father Catapha’s Atomic who died at the age of over 12 years. And she had one litter with Legacy in 2010 with 6 puppies. All of them lived to veteran age and died between the age of almost 9 years until 11 years. Kirsi had another litter with Legacy at the beginning of 2023 and kept another son of him, who I got to know when I visited her. He is already very balanced for his young age and an open and friendly fellow.
Legacy’s father Catapha’s Atomic at the age of 10,5 years, just having won BOS, BOB Veteran and BIS2-Veteran at the yearly Finnish Specialty show
Legacy has produced only 2 litters until now with altogether 19 puppies, so he is not a popular sire plus his pedigree consists of some very rare and old blood lines from the States, Germany, Sweden and Denmark. Many of his ancestors reached a high/very high age. Even though Legacy is mostly bred from blue and harlequin lines he carries fawn, so with Cookie black and fawn puppies can be expected. The combination is a very wide outcross, they don’t share any common ancestors for more than 8 generations. This is very rare in great dane breeding, because somewhere all danes on this planet are related to each other, even if they are from different color groups. Zero inbreeding (COI: 0,00%) and a high Ancestor Loss Coefficient (ALC: 94,21%) lead to a very high genetic diversity, which increases the chances for healthy, resistant and mentally stable offspring.
The puppies will be born around X-Mas 2023 and we are looking forward to this special Christmas presents this year. If you are interested in a dog from GaiAlmas great danes, please fill out the puppy application form:
